First FIR filed under FATA interim regulations

Under the FATA Interim Governance Regulations, 2018 which was signed into a law on May 25 this year, the Mohmand administration on Saturday filed a first FIR against a tribesman on Saturday.
The case, which will be taken by many as a first step towards establishing the government’s writ in the erstwhile FATA, was lodged against one Malik Sultan for allegedly threatening Levies officials in Dawezai area of Pandiali tehsil of the Lower Mohmand sub-division
Pandiali Naib Tehsildar Fazli Karim told Daily Times that Levies officials along with local administration officials were called in on Wednesday to break up a row between two groups led by Mir Zaman Khan and Ahmed, respectively, over a land dispute.
The Levies officials arrested one person each of both parties to maintain peace, he said.
However, a local elder, Malik Sultan alias Sultany, gathered some locals with the “intention” to attack the house of Mir Zaman Khan.
Further drilling down, Karim said that the Levies in-charge warned them against taking any such step that could create a law and order situation there but Malik Sultan threatened them with dire consequences.
Karim added that the angry mob was dispersed peacefully but the next morning Ahmed along with his unidentified armed accomplices entered the house of a tribesman.
Resultantly, the owner of the house, Ayaz, opened firing on the “assailants”, killing Ahmed on the spot. His accomplices, however, managed to flee.
After the incident, the Pandiali Tehsildar along with the Levies and Khasadar officials arrested Ayaz and shifted him to Ekka Ghund lock-up where a cross FIR was lodged followed by a 15-day interim peace agreement between the two parties .
Lower Mohmand Assistant Commissioner Touseef Khalid said that a FIR under section 24 of FIGR had also been launched against Malik Sultan.
He said that efforts were underway to arrest the suspect.
